JMC Wins in I.T. Olympiad Jonard Falcon and Jennifer Corda, both JMC computer students, won first place during the recently concluded Mindanao-wide IT Quiz Bowl held at the University of Mindanao, Matina last February 20, 2009. This competition was organized by the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE) and the Council of Information Technology Educators (CDITE). There were a total of 15 colleges and universities from all over Mindanao which competed during the quiz bowl. Each school sent two of its best bets, and JMC was represented by Jonard Falcon, a fourth year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science student, and Jennifer Corda, a first year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student. They were accompanied by their coach, Engr. Sharon Z. Ordoyo, Program Head of the IT/CS courses. During the last round, Jose Maria College and the University of the Philippines tied for the first place. The two teams had a tie-breaker round or the Sudden Death round. The first team to raise the correct answer won the round. Fortunately, because of the quick wit and excellent mathematical skills of the JMC representatives, they were able to beat the competitors from UP. The University of the Philippines landed second place while the third place was taken by the Davao del Norte State College of Panabo. Our contestants received a trophy, certificates and a cash prize of 1,000 pesos each. JMC has been sending its best bets to this competition for four years now and this was the first time that it was able to bag the championship. The said event was sponsored by Philnits, Sun Microsystems and Smart Telecommunication. |
