JMC Knights Qualify for Regional PRISAA JMC chess players qualify for Regional PRISAA as they bested six other schools during the Davao PRISAA Games held at Holy Cross of Davao College last February 28, March 1 and March 8, 2009. Board 2 player, Jerwell Andoy with a total of five and a half points and Board 4 player, Joe Art Capatan who gathered a perfect score of six points both ranked first place in their respective board placement in the men’s category which made them qualifiers for the Regional PRISAA. JMarian lady wood pushers also ranked 1st place in their assigned boards. They are Rizz Monique Juan with five points and Erianne Mabelle Alcordo with five and a half points. At the end of the seven-round tournament, the JMC chess team Men’s Division earned a total score of 20 and half points while in the Women’s division, the team garnered a cumulative score of 18 and half points. The team ranked 1st place in the men’s division and 2nd place for the women‘s division. Other members of the team also showed good performance. Jay Bulicatin (board 1) ranked 3rd place, Jester Andoy (board 3) 3rd place, Rose Sevilla (board 1) 2nd place and Algie Modina (board 2) 4th place. The participants during the three-day tournament were Ateneo de Davao College, University of Mindanao, San Pedro College, Brokenshire College, Davao Doctors College, Holy Cross of Davao College and Jose Maria College. The Davao PRISAA (Private School’s Athletics Association) is held annually in order to determine the best players in the city who would then compete against the bets from other cities in the Region during the Regional PRISAA. Those who will win during the Regional level will compete in the National PRISAA Games. The JMarian chess players who qualified for the Regional level will be participating during the Regional PRISAA which will be held at the University of Mindanao, Matina Campus on the last week of March together with their coach, Mr. Rowel Modina. JMC Chess Team Coach, Mr. Rowel Modian says there is a very big chance for the JMarian chess players to qualify for the National Games which will be held in Naga City this summer. |
